Nick Williams — Drum & Music Theory Tutor in Manchester
Bio
Nick has 10 years' experience teaching drums and has been performing professionally for 15 years. He holds a Rockschool Grade 8 in Drums, ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory, and a First Class Honours degree in Pop Performance (Drums) from Leeds Conservatoire. Nick is fully DBS checked and has extensive experience teaching drums to children and adults of all abilities.
Teaching Approach
Nick's lessons build solid technique, timing and groove from day one, while keeping things musical rather than just mechanical. As a working professional drummer, he focuses on the skills that matter in a real playing situation — locking in with a bass player, following a click or a set list, dynamic control, and reading charts — so students come away as confident, well-rounded musicians rather than just kit technicians. He's happy to tailor lessons to whatever style a student loves, from pop and rock to funk and soul.
Performing
With 15 years' professional playing experience, Nick performs regularly on stages across the UK, including a regular slot at The Blues Kitchen in Manchester and with The Untold Orchestra, a Manchester-based collaborative ensemble known for its genre-spanning Soul, Afrobeats, Hip Hop and R&B performances. Running full in-ear monitoring setups night after night, that real-world performance experience feeds directly into lessons — practical stagecraft, dynamic control under pressure, and the confidence to play as part of a live band.

Where do you teach drum lessons near Manchester? Our Manchester-based tutor Nick Williams covers Cheadle, Didsbury, Stretford, Hulme and other nearby areas, offering home visits, studio lessons, and online tuition.
Do I need a drum kit at home before starting lessons? Yes — having a kit at home helps you practise between lessons and make faster progress. Either an acoustic or electronic drum kit works well; an electronic kit is often a practical, neighbour-friendly way to start, especially in flats or shared housing.
Are drum lessons suitable for beginners and advanced players? Yes — from complete beginners learning their first grooves to experienced drummers working towards Rockschool grades, auditions, or gigging opportunities, lessons are fully personalised to your ability and goals.
How do online drum lessons work? Online lessons run over video call and work well for technique, timing, rudiments, and groove development, using a metronome and play-along tracks. You'll need a kit (acoustic or electronic) at home and a stable internet connection — electronic kits are especially well suited to online lessons since they're easy to position on camera and keep quiet for neighbours.
What is your cancellation policy? We operate a 48-hour cancellation policy. With at least 48 hours' notice, there's no charge and we'll help rearrange your lesson. Inside 48 hours, the full lesson fee applies.
