Bio
Matyas Price-Jones is a professional guitarist who has been playing for 16 years and performing in bands since the age of 14. He graduated with a First Class degree (BA Hons Popular Music) from the Royal Northern College of Music, and achieved a Distinction in Rockschool Grade 8 Guitar at 17. Matyas is DBS checked. Based in Knutsford, he teaches at your home across Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Handforth, Prestbury & Cheadle, and online.
Teaching Approach
Matyas teaches acoustic and electric guitar to children and adults, from complete beginners who want to work through the grades to intermediate players looking to deepen their knowledge of the instrument. He's comfortable teaching through both the Rockschool and Trinity syllabuses, and has experience teaching a wide range of abilities.
Primarily a rock guitarist, Matyas focuses on riff writing and virtuosic playing, with experience across everything from funk and pop to prog and metal. He also has a sophisticated understanding of functional harmony, time signatures and rhythm, which he uses to help students understand why things work, not just what to play.
Performing
Matyas is the guitarist and songwriter in XL Poncho, a band with over 50,000 followers on TikTok that regularly plays sold-out shows in Manchester and Liverpool and is gearing up to release its debut EP. With XL Poncho and other bands, he has gigged all over the UK, particularly in Manchester, London and Liverpool, at venues including Manchester Academy 3, Manchester Club Academy, Band on the Wall, Deaf Institute, O2 Academy Islington and the Jacaranda Baltic.
