Bio
SIDNEY NG — Piano & Music Theory Tutor in ALTRINCHAM
Sidney Ng is a Hong Kong-born, UK-trained pianist with over nine years of experience teaching piano. He holds an ARSM Diploma in Piano Performance and ABRSM Grade 8 Music Theory, and teaches at students' homes across Altrincham and the surrounding area. He has taught one-to-one and group lessons for learners of all ages, from complete beginners to advanced repertoire, and prepares students for ABRSM exams and performances.
Sidney holds an enhanced DBS certificate.
Teaching Approach
Sidney builds each lesson around the student's own goals, learning style and pace. He focuses on secure technique, expressive playing and sight-reading, and on a lasting enjoyment of music, whether a student is working towards an ABRSM grade or simply wants to play for pleasure. He also teaches music theory up to Grade 8.
Sidney keeps learning himself. For the past four years he has studied with Phil Best, an award-winning RNCM graduate, whose mentorship has shaped his thoughtful, encouraging approach to teaching.
He speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and is happy to teach in any of the three.
Performing
Alongside teaching, Sidney performs with live ensembles as a drummer and keyboard player, and is an advanced pianist and drummer who is also learning the violin. Playing with others gives him strong rhythmic awareness, sight-reading and a collaborative approach, all of which he brings into his lessons.
