Wilmslow has become one of the busiest corners of our piano teaching map over the past year, and it's not hard to see why. Between Wilmslow High School, the primary schools scattered around Pownall Green and the Bollin Valley, and the number of families who've moved out from Manchester for a bit more space, there's a real appetite here for something structured and local rather than another after-school scramble across the city.
I cover lessons across Wilmslow itself, plus Alderley Edge, Prestbury and Handforth, and I trained at the Royal Northern College of Music specialising in both voice and piano — I've been teaching professionally for three years now. Lessons happen in your home, wherever that is: up near Pownall Park, over towards Lindow, out by Water Lane, or online if that fits your week better.
A first lesson isn't a test. It's really about twenty minutes of listening — where a student's ear naturally sits, whether they're drawn to reading notation or picking things out by feel, what music actually gets them excited (pop, musical theatre and classical all come up a lot in Wilmslow living rooms) — before easing into something they can actually play by the end of the hour. There's no awkward silence or "right, let's start with scales." It's a conversation first.
For older students working through ABRSM grades, structure matters more: past papers, sight-reading drills, and a clear runway toward exam dates rather than vague "we'll get there" reassurance. For younger beginners, it's shorter pieces, more games, and genuinely a fair amount of talking about whatever they're into that week in between.
I also teach singing alongside piano, and it comes up more than you'd expect — plenty of Wilmslow students want both, particularly ahead of school shows or Saturday morning choir. There's no pressure to pick one over the other; lessons can flex between the two depending on what a student wants that week.
Pricing is straightforward: £35 for a 60-minute lesson, £18 for 30 minutes, and travel is included wherever you are in the area. We also run a 48-hour cancellation policy, so if something comes up, just give us enough notice and we'll sort it. Every new student starts with a free consultation lesson first — no obligation, just a chance to meet before committing to anything.
If you're in Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Handforth, or anywhere in between and have been meaning to get a child — or yourself — started on piano or singing, get in touch and we'll find a time that works.
