Piano Lessons in Alderley Edge: Home Visits from a Local Tutor

Piano Lessons in Alderley Edge

Home Visits from a Local Tutor

Alderley Edge is best known for two things: the Edge itself — that sandstone escarpment above the village, wrapped in National Trust woodland and centuries of wizard legends — and a village centre that punches well above its weight, with London Road's cafés and restaurants busy from morning until late. What it doesn't have in abundance is piano teachers who come to you. That's where I come in.

I'm Sam Pendrill, the Wilmslow-based piano tutor at Phillips Music Tuition, and Alderley Edge is right on my doorstep — just a few minutes down the A34 from my base. I teach one-to-one piano lessons in students' homes across the village and the lanes around it, as well as covering Prestbury, Handforth, Wilmslow and Cheadle. If home visits don't suit, I also teach from my studio space in Wilmslow, or online.

Lessons built around the student

Families in Alderley Edge tend to have full diaries — between school, sport and everything else, adding a trip to a music teacher's house can be the thing that makes lessons unsustainable. Home visits remove that problem entirely: I arrive, we play, and the rest of your evening carries on as normal.

As for what we work on, that depends entirely on the student. I'm a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, where I specialised in piano and voice, and I hold Grade 8 in both — so for students on the exam track, I teach the ABRSM syllabus from prep test through to Grade 8, covering pieces, scales, aural and sight-reading properly rather than as an afterthought. But plenty of my students aren't interested in exams at all. I specialise in pop, and I also teach classical, jazz and musical theatre, so if your ambition is playing Elton John, Einaudi or whatever's on your playlist, we'll build lessons around exactly that.

Adult beginners are especially welcome. Some of my most rewarding students are people who always wanted to play and finally decided the time was right. If that's you, I promise the hardest part is the first email.

Learning from a working musician

Away from teaching I perform regularly across Manchester and the North West, and I've worked with chart-topping artists including Cian Ducrot and Self Esteem. That performing life feeds directly into lessons — phrasing, feel, and how to actually enjoy playing in front of people are things you learn best from someone who does it every week.

Prices and getting started

Lessons are £35 for 60 minutes or £18 for 30 minutes, and travel to your home in Alderley Edge is included in the price. New students get a free consultation lesson — a relaxed first meeting to have a play, talk about goals, and make sure we're a good fit before you commit to anything.

You'll find full details on our Wilmslow & Alderley Edge piano lessons page, or you can book your free consultation today. Maybe I'll see you at the piano soon — and if not, you'll find me up the Edge on my day off.
