Bramhall has always struck me as a village that takes its own pace — Bramhall Hall sitting quietly in its park at one end, the shops and cafes along Bramhall Lane South doing steady trade, the trains to Manchester rattling through every twenty minutes or so for anyone who needs the city without wanting to live in it. It's the kind of place where a lot of families are juggling school runs to Bramhall High or Ladybrook Primary, after-school clubs, and trying to fit in something that isn't homework or football. I'm Sam, and I teach piano and singing across Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Prestbury, Handforth, Cheadle and the villages in between — Bramhall included. I trained at the Royal Northern College of Music, specialising in both voice and piano, and I've been teaching professionally for three years now. Outside of lessons I still perform regularly — I've played with artists like Cian Ducrot and Self Esteem, appeared on the Christmas Songs of Praise alongside Tony Hadley, and I gig around Manchester and the North West with my own material. I mention that not to boast, but because it shapes how I teach: I want students actually making music they enjoy, not just working through exercises for their own sake.
Lessons in Bramhall work the same way as everywhere else I teach. We start with a free, no-obligation consultation so you can meet me and see if it's a good fit before committing to anything. From there, lessons are built around what you actually want — whether that's a structured route through the ABRSM grades, getting ready for a school audition or a music degree application, or an adult picking piano back up after twenty years away and just wanting to enjoy it again. I teach mostly pop, but I'm equally comfortable in classical, jazz and musical theatre, and because I trained as a vocalist too, I can teach singing alongside piano or on its own — useful if a student wants to work on both without juggling two different tutors.
I see a real mix of students in this part of Cheshire: younger children just starting out, teenagers working toward grades, and adults who've decided this is finally the year they learn properly. All of it happens in your own home, so there's no extra journey tacked onto an already busy week — just you, a piano, and an hour (or half hour) that's entirely yours. I'm fully DBS checked, with safeguarding training in place for lessons with children.
